What quantum physics teaches us about identity, illusion and awakening
The Illusion of a Fixed Self
Most people live as if their identity is solid, a fixed story made of past, personality and perception. But in spiritual awakening, that identity starts to break down. You begin to question
‘Who am I really if I am not my thoughts, emotions or experiences?’
Quantum physics asks the same question, not about the self but about matter itself. And the answer it gives is confronting. Nothing exists in a definite state until it is observed. Everything is pure potential until consciousness collapses it into form.
What Is Wave Function Collapse
In quantum mechanics, particles exist in a superposition, a state where all possible realities exist at once. The moment you observe it, that wave of possibilities collapses into one outcome. This is called wave function collapse. Reality does not solidify until consciousness interacts with it.
Now take that same principle and apply it inward. Your identity, your ego, your sense of self, all of it is just a wave of potential until you choose to observe, define and attach to it.
Ego Is Just an Observation You Keep Choosing
The ego is not a villain. It is an operating system. But it only feels real because you keep observing it, feeding it with beliefs, memories and emotional reactions.
When spiritual awakening begins, you stop feeding the old identity. You stop believing the stories that once defined you. The ego does not die violently. It fades, like a wave function left unobserved.
This is the death of ego. The realisation that it never existed as a fixed truth. Just a habit of attention.
Consciousness Is the True Creator
What quantum physics hints at, and what spirituality confirms, is that consciousness is not inside reality. It creates reality. It does not just passively witness the world. It shapes it.
Every time you shift your awareness, you collapse a new version of yourself into being. That is not metaphor. That is physics.
Why This Matters for Spiritual Growth
Understanding wave function collapse gives language to what many feel during awakening
-
The dissolving of certainty
-
The sense that nothing is real
-
The terrifying but liberating truth that you are not who you thought you were
You are not unravelling. You are returning to pure potential.
And from that space, you can create a life and self aligned with soul, not survival.
You Don’t Have to Go Through This Alone
Spiritual awakening can feel like ego death, because in many ways, it is. But you are not crazy, broken or alone.
